Facebook officially announces watch, a new video channel hosted on Facebook where creators and publishers can upload original TV shows. Watch will be available as a separate tab in the Facebook app only where people can watch original TV shows which “follow a theme or storyline”.
“Watch is a platform for all creators and publishers to find an audience, build a community of passionate fans, and earn money for their work” mentioned by Facebook in their announcement post. Facebook also mentioned that “We think Watch will be home to a wide range of shows, from reality to comedy to live sports”.
There will be many categories such as “Most talked about”, “what’s making people laugh”, and “what friends are watching” under the discover section of the watch tab. There will also a section called “Watchlist” which will have the videos that you haven’t seen from your favorite Creators.
You will also be able to comment and react on the videos. “Comments and reactions to a video are often as much a part of the experience as the video itself” Facebook mentioned. You could also be able to indulge in group chat about the show.
As of now the service is only available for a limited section of Facebook users in the US, however Facebook said that the service will come to more and more countries as soon as possible.
