Uber is releasing another new update for their app which brings the capability to chat with your Uber driver directly via the app. So now no need to have those awkward phone calls with your Uber driver.
According to the company “When drivers receive a chat from the rider, it will be read aloud to them. Drivers can acknowledge receipt with one tap to their app to send a “thumbs up” to their rider. That way, they can stay focused on the road”.
To send a message to your driver the ride just needs to select “contact” then “chat” in the feed section of the Uber app. The rider can then send a quick text to the driver regarding the pickup location, etc.
As texting while driving is dangerous the company has introduced a solution for this also, the messages will be read aloud to the driver and they can respond to the text using a “thumbs-up” image with one tap.
The company also mentioned that both the riders and the drivers will be able to see if their chats are delivered or not. According to Uber’s Product manager Jeremy Lermitte the in-app messaging capability will make it easy for the riders and the drivers to communicate with each other even in places where SMS and voice calls are not easily available.
The update will be available globally by the next few weeks.
